We recently had a conversation with a friend about how Halloween and New Year's Eve are very similar holidays. You always feel like you should be doing something epic/make big plans/put on a special outfit/etc, and then your ballooned expectations make it difficult for the night to be a success. We, however, reject not having fun (especially when party blowers are involved!). Our tried and true recipe for blast-tacular celebrations is to surround ourselves with friends who are awesome regardless of circumstance. And if those same awesome friends also happen to have a beach house in Delaware, well, that's really fortuitous.
And so, we eschewed the glitz of and dolla dolla billz required for a DC New Year's and spent the day frolicking on the beach and dancing our feetsies off at a dive bar in Dewey. It ended up being pretty perfect, actually.
We hope your 2012 started terrifically and brings you all the joy you deserve. It's only natural to view a new year as a fresh start, but after talking about our resolutions of sorts, neither of us are planning a major overhaul. We love Hal Borland's thoughts on the matter who said: "Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning, but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us." Continuously improve? Sure. Stay you? Imperative. Happy 2012, adventurer!
